and Pastels Born in Wilmington, North Carolina, Jane has been involved in the arts for much of her life beginning with music and turning to visual arts as an adult. Her formal training in art began with drawing classes through Duke University in North Carolina, followed by drawing, pastel and oil classes at the Carnegie Museum of Art and at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After moving to Alexandria, Virginia in 1994 she continued her work in oil and pastel at The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria until her move to the Seattle area in 2000. Her career blossomed over the next three years as she developed deep friendships with other artists and took classes and workshops with Julann Campbell, Ned Mueller, Dorothy Lampl, Gay Faulkenberry and Catherine Gill. This award-winning artist has had paintings accepted into many juried art and group shows. She is a member of the Northwest Pastel Society and examples of her work can be found at www.absolutearts.com/janemayer She is currently working in oils and pastels with emphasis on impressionist renderings of still life, landscapes and portraiture and is available for commission work upon request. |
